After the Humming Bird update, this time it is the turn for Google Penguin as the renowned search engine has announced their latest version of the algorithm – Google Penguin 2.1. The update has become official after MattCutts – Google’s Web spam head had tweeted about the update on 4th October 2013. As per report, Google Penguin 2.1 will be responsible for affecting 1% of entire search queries. Targeted at web spam and high quality content, this version will further lower the rankings of the sites that have been ignoring the search engine’s webmaster’s existing rules and instructions.

As of now, though nothing much is known about Penguin 2.1, this second generation Penguin algorithm is a significant update that will show an effect on searches. Google has not let the public know what are their intensions and the specific area of impact. Even the link provided by MattCutts in his tweet says nothing much about the latest update. Things will take a clearer image as people will start reporting during the days and weeks to come and it will be only then that the details and aims of it can be determined. Until then look out for any change that has altered the traffic of your site.
